Boer Goats a goer at Whittlesea Show.
Boer Goat Australia (BGA) is excited to team up with the Whittlesea Agricultural Society in organising BGA’s inaugural boer goat show to be held on Saturday 3rd November, as a part of the 2018 Whittlesea Show. Boer goat breeder Joe D’Andrea of Bailieston Boers, Nagambie, Victoria says this will be the first show in Victoria dedicated to exhibiting animals from all aspects of the boer goat industry, with all varieties of boer goats on display, not just stud animals. The 2018 Whittlesea Show will exhibit classes for red, black, painted (patches of different colours) and standard boers (white with a red head), as well as classes for commercial non-registered goats judged on their meat potential and a junior class for young farmers.
As superintendent of the boer goat show Joe says that he wants this show to be a friendly social day of competition amongst new and experienced breeders. A day for the public to come in, see some amazing animals and source information from experienced breeders about boer goat meat and breeding. Berwyn Squire at Agriculture Victoria will also be there to answer any questions about goat health, welfare and NLIS tagging. There will also be an opportunity to get hands on with some goats at the “Kids Corner” (pun intended).
BGA Chief Administrator, Maureen Dean, mentions that positive feedback to the inaugural show has been flowing in and that support and interest has been received from all over Australia. There is even one member from Western Australia interested in entering, as it is a great opportunity that they may not receive in WA.
